Why no universal formula is enough
A priest considers whether this is a first preparation, a regular life of worship, a long absence, illness or another personal circumstance. An online text cannot give permission instead of that conversation.
Confession and Communion
Confession is repentance and reconciliation with God and the Church. Communion is participation in Christ through the Holy Gifts. Confession is not a ticket earned by a formal list, and Communion is not a prize for a flawless person.
First Communion or returning after a break
Ask in advance when confession is heard and whether you can speak briefly with a priest. “I would like to prepare for Communion but do not know where to begin” is a normal question. You may first attend the Liturgy without receiving, listen to the prayers and become familiar with the service.
Regular church life
For someone participating regularly, a spiritual father or parish priest may bless an individual order of preparation. This is not a privilege; it is personal pastoral care. Another person’s practice cannot become your own rule without a conversation.
Preparation without harm
Prayer, reconciliation, worship, fasting and reading may all be part of preparation. Health, medication, pregnancy, care for children and demanding work require a sensible conversation rather than self-harm. Never stop necessary medicine for the sake of an external rule.
If confession feels frightening
Start with what truly burdens your conscience. You do not need a literary autobiography or an online catalogue of sins. A short note may help if speaking is difficult; ask the priest for help.
