Icon of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker

People pray before this icon for help on a journey, for their loved ones and for those in difficult circumstances. Saint Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia, is remembered for mercy, care for the poor and defending those unjustly condemned. Born in Patara in Asia Minor, he became a priest and later Archbishop of Myra. He helped those in need in secret and cared for his flock. His feast is celebrated on December 19, and the translation of his relics on May 22 (civil calendar dates).
